Infiniti’s High Performance Goodies at the LA Auto Show

RED BULL RB7

Infiniti made the most of their partnership with the Red Bull Formula One team by displaying the championship winning RB7 at the LA Auto show.

Aside from having a fabulous RB7 F1 car on display at their booth, the Japanese luxury automaker brought along a few goodies from the reigning Formula One World Champion Sebastian Vettel.

INFINITI G37 IPL

Following suit, Infiniti also had the factory tuned, G37 IPL on hand at the 2011 LA Auto Show.  The more potent G comes with an upgraded powerplant, similar to that of its cousin the Nismo 370Z, pumping out 348 HP and 276 lb-ft of twist thanks in part to a redesigned high flow exhaust; and drivers will not only get to choose between either a flappy paddle 7 speed gearbox or a more traditional six speed unit with a short shifter, but between Graphite Shadow and Malbec Black for the outside to go with a grey or red interior and the bespoke fourteen spoke 19 inch rollers.

The Subaru BR-Z Concept, the best thing at the LA Auto Show

While the Scion FR-S Concept was enough to whet the appetite of the automotive enthusiast community, it was a joyous occasion to see the Toyobaru show its true colors; a healthy combination of World Rally Blue bodywork, carbon fiber go fast goodies and a set of, in my opinion, off color offset STi rollers.

The BR-Z is still a concept, but after the transparent teaser earlier this year, you can rest assured that the “BR” will be pretty true to form.  As the show piece sits right now, with 225s up front and 255 mm wide rubber stretched across the rear, the mismatched look may be stance friendly, but not so much when it comes to rotating your tires; and you can be assured that those back gum balls will need to swapped sooner than later with the ever growing popularity of the sideways craze called drifting.  Opening the door for an all new era of Scooby enthusiasts who sadly missed out on Sir Colin and ol’ Burnsy, just to name two that made the marque so great, but might just come to know the Pleadis logo for the epic battles with say, its sister car on the Formula D Circuit, with someone like 2011 Formula Drift Champion Daijiro Yoshihara behind the wheel.

Don’t worry rally fans, as the WRC has come to favor smaller displacements and B segment cars, the group from Fuji Heavy Industries is always keeping an out for the future.  And in that future the wheels on the BR-Z should be gold, Dai agrees, now’s not the time to be conservative Subaru.

Goodies from Jaguar’s LA Auto Show Pre Party

2012 JAGUAR XKR-S CONVERTIBLE

The 2012 Jaguar XKR-S Convertible at the Jaguar/Land Rover LA Auto Show pre-party. The drop head sports coupe is powered by a 5.0 Liter Supercharged V8 making 550 HP and 502 lb-ft of torque, the $140,000 XKR-S drop top will take owners from 0 to 60 MPH in just over 4 seconds with the wind in their hair when it hits showrooms next spring.

JAGUAR C-X16 HYBRID CONCEPT

The Jaguar C-X16 Concept at the Jaguar/Land Rover 2011 LA Auto Show pre-party. The green dream machine is propelled by a Hybrid 3.0 Liter V6 developing 376 HP alone and as much as 469 HP and 505 lb-ft of twist; allowing the alternative energy burning speedster to accelerate from 0 to 60 MPH in 4.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 186 MPH. However drivers will also be able to go up to 50 MPH on pure electric power.

The 2013 Ford Flex is Retro Done Right, Again

Ford has done the retro styling thing well, but more importantly, the facelifts are looking good so far. The 2010 Mustang is much more beautiful than the old Mustang II ever was (with respect to whatever Dearborn was doing during the days of disco) and the second-generation modern interpretation of the classic sixties surfer wagon is certainly following suit.

Starting off with the striking front end, gone is the trio of shiny bars in favor of one bold polished piece that ties the two modern headlamps flush with the flowing fenders. The elongated ingot is a piece that begs to be flicked by gawkers’ forefingers, for a quick quality check that will undoubtedly prove positive, and serves to underline the new bold badging riding right up on the front of the hood in lieu of an old school Blue Oval.

Available user-friendly features include Ford’s MyKey with passive entry and a push button starter, all part of the Flex’s redesigned sleeker interior like the improved MyFordTouch. A user interface that consolidates any and every infotainment you can think of duty onto a pair of easy to read 4.2 inch screens in the instrument cluster for “keep your eyes on the road information” as well as one large easy to interpret 8 inch touchable panel integrated into the Flex’s center stack.

Seriously, MyFordTouch allows a Ford Flex owner to do everything from call home to tell their significant other “they’ll be running late,” to finding the fastest alternate route around that stinking traffic and finally adjusting the a/c and tune into his or her favorite satellite radio station to relax in a plush leather bucket once they’ve succumb to the rush hour gridlock.

However when the road opens up, and even becomes windy (trust me I’ve been there), the available Ford EcoBoost engine and all wheel drive system are more than capable, thanks to the fuel efficient twin turbocharged six cylinder which is good for over 350 ponies and/or pound feet, whichever way you look at it. Did we also mention that every one of those spent hydrocarbons will have a choice as to which side of the car they want to exit the now model standard dual exhaust.

The Blue Oval upgrades MyFordTouch

Fords futurists, visual designers and software engineers have been hard at work optimizing the potential of the MyFordTouch interactive infotainment driver interface. Screens load faster, objects are more intuitive and it’ll be in showrooms soon. Best of all, current owners should be expecting a usb flash drive that will allow them to upgrade in their own driveway.
